Black Tech Stories Deserve Their Own Stage
Why I Built BIT Voices — and Why Amplifying Black Technologists Matters Now More Than Ever
For most of my career in technology, I’ve noticed something that never quite sat right with me.
Some of the most talented technologists I’ve worked with — engineers, founders, architects, innovators — were building incredible things. Real products. Real companies. Real solutions to real problems.
But very few people were hearing their stories.
Not because the work wasn’t there.
Not because the talent wasn’t there.
But because the visibility wasn’t there.
And the more years I spent in this industry, the more obvious that gap became.
The Talent Has Always Been There
If you spend enough time in tech, you quickly realize something important:
Black technologists are everywhere.
They’re building platforms.
Launching startups.
Leading engineering teams.
Creating tools that power companies and communities.
But far too often, their work happens quietly — behind the scenes, without the kind of visibility that turns builders into recognized voices.
Meanwhile, the broader tech conversation tends to highlight the same small group of people over and over again.
That doesn’t mean the brilliance isn’t out there.
It means the spotlight isn’t reaching everyone it should.
Visibility Changes Everything
Visibility is powerful.
When people see someone who looks like them building in tech, something shifts.
Possibility expands.
Young developers start to believe they belong in the room.
Future founders begin to imagine building their own platforms.
Communities start to see technology not just as something they use — but something they can create.
Representation isn’t just about recognition.
It’s about expanding the imagination of what’s possible.
The Missing Piece: Amplification
Over the years, I kept asking myself the same question:
Why are so many incredible Black technologists building amazing things… yet their stories rarely travel far beyond their immediate circles?
It wasn’t a lack of innovation.
It wasn’t a lack of expertise.
It wasn’t even a lack of community.
What was missing was amplification.
There wasn’t a dedicated stage where these voices could consistently be seen, heard, and connected.
That realization eventually led to a simple idea:
What if we built that stage?
Building BIT Voices
BIT Voices Network was created to amplify the voices of Black technologists and builders.
Not just the founders who make headlines.
Not just the entrepreneurs raising venture capital.
But the full spectrum of builders:
Engineers
Creators
Innovators
Startup founders
Architects
Developers building amazing things inside companies and outside of them
The people pushing technology forward every day.
The idea behind BIT Voices is simple:
Create a place where Black technologists can share what they’re building, what they’re learning, and what they’re discovering — while connecting with others doing the same.
A place where builders aren’t just consuming content.
They’re contributing to the conversation.
More Than a Platform
BIT Voices isn’t just about posting content.
It’s about building a network of voices.
A space where:
Builders share ideas.
Technologists learn from one another.
Founders talk openly about the realities of building.
Creators amplify each other’s work.
Over time, the goal is for these conversations to grow into something much bigger than a single platform.
A movement of visibility.
A network of builders.
A culture of shared knowledge and shared growth.
This Is Just the Beginning
BIT Voices is still early.
We’re building the platform, growing the community, and shaping the culture together.
But the vision is clear.
A future where Black technologists are not only building incredible things — but where their stories, ideas, and innovations are seen and heard across the tech ecosystem.
Because when builders are visible, they inspire other builders.
And when enough voices come together, something powerful happens.
A community forms.
A movement grows.
And the next generation of technologists begins to see what’s possible.
An Invitation to Builders
If you’re building something in tech — whether it’s a startup, a side project, a new idea, or a piece of technology you’re passionate about — your voice matters.
BIT Voices exists so those voices can be shared, amplified, and connected.
The stage is open.
Let’s build something meaningful together.
